Red Bull reaction proves Max is with the 'right team'

Max Verstappen says the way Red Bull rallied around him after his British GP crash is proof that he is with the “right team”.

Although the Dutchman has a long-term contract with Red Bull that runs until the end of the 2023 season, rumours that Mercedes want to sign him are still whispered around the paddock.

That, though, potentially ended last time out at Silverstone.

Taken out of the grand prix by Lewis Hamilton as the two fought for the lead on the opening lap, Verstappen was left bruised and battered. Red Bull were incensed.

Both Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko and team boss Christian Horner took up the criticism of Lewis Hamilton, even going as far to request an official review of the Brit’s 10-second penalty for causing the collision.

But while that failed on Thursday, Verstappen says Red Bull’s response to his crash has proven once and for all that he is in the right place.

He told his website: “How Red Bull reacted after Silverstone and how everyone handled everything confirms to me that I am really in the right team.

“They go through fire for me.

“I got calls and messages from everyone, I don’t think you will see the warmth that I feel within our team with any other team.”

Verstappen was left bruised by his British Grand Prix crash, hitting the tyre barrier with an impact of 51G.

While he was taken to hospital for further checks after reporting that he felt dizzy, he was released later that same night.

Marko reckons a “normal person” would not have survived while also admitting he initially “feared” the Dutchman would not be fit for this weekend’s Hungarian GP.

Verstappen says if he had to, he would have hopped in the car the very next day.

“If I had to drive the next day, I would have got in anyway,” he said.

“I will never let anyone else race in my car. Even if I secretly had a break up, I wouldn’t admit it.”

Conceding it was a big hit, he’s says it probably would not be a good idea to do that too often.

“Yes,” he said, “that indicates that the cars are extremely safe.

“But you should not have such a hit too often in a row, because that is certainly not good for your body. Everything felt stiff.”
