Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Funeral Service to Affect F1 Qualifying at Imola

Formula 1 fans need to check their local listings, as they say in TV land, for this weekend’s action from Imola, Italy.

On Tuesday, the FIA and Formula 1 announced changes to the Friday-Saturday practice and qualifying schedules for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix as a mark of respect to the Royal funeral for His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, that will take place on Saturday.

On Friday, FP1 will move to 5 a.m.-6 a.m. and FP2 will move to 8:30-9:30 a.m. ET and due to the rules requiring those sessions to be separated by at least two and a half hours and FP3 needing to start no less than 19 hours after the end of FP2.

On Saturday, as a result, FP3 will move to 5 a.m. ET. Qualifying will now take place at 8 a.m. ET in order to comply with the FIA and F1 regulations that require qualifying must be 120 minutes after FP3.

The FIA reports there will be a minute of silence ahead of qualifying to honor Prince Philip.

The race is still set for April 18 at 9 a.m. ET (ESPN TV).
