Ferrari: No reason to change our line-up

Ferrari are set to stick with Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc for 2020 despite the duo having failed to win a single grand prix this season.

Ferrari entered the summer break without a single win on the board, the blame belonging in part to both drivers as well as the team.

Mistakes have been made by everyone at Ferrari, raising questions about whether Vettel, clearly frustrated at times, could walk away at the end of this season.

Team boss Binotto says that won’t happen.

“We have a couple of high-level drivers and I see no reason why we have to change anything,” he told Spain’s Marca.

“Both have a contract and there is no doubt that Vettel will be with us in 2020.”

Speaking specifically about Vettel, who after Monaco was rumoured to be seriously considering retirement – something he denied several times, Binotto said: “Seb in the race has always been very competitive, he is clear that it is important for him to capitalise on his pace.

“When you make some mistakes like Silverstone’s it is not ideal, but beyond that, I am happy.

“He is an expert and he knows how to manage the tyres.”

As for Leclerc, the Ferrari rookie has yet to achieve his first race win, robbed in Baku when his SF90 lost a cylinder while in Austria he was so close only to lose to Max Verstappen on the penultimate lap.

The Monégasque driver, though, has also cost himself points through his own mistakes as, in only his second season in F1, he is still learning the ropes.

Binotto said: “Charles is in his first year with Ferrari and there is a lot of pressure. He has made some mistakes but he is all about learning and not repeating them.

“We are all very happy with the way he is integrating with the team and with his progress.”
