Behold the 800 hp Brabus 800 SUV Coupe

We reckon that to most people the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ Coupe and its 603 hp twin-turbo provides plenty of oomph for a high performance crossover. To the crazed German engineers at Mercedes tuner Brabus, it’s the perfect starting point. From there, Brabus says its engineers and designers turn the AMG into a high-performance SUV coupe “in a class of its own.”

Brabus, based about 165 miles Northwest of Frankfurt in Bottrop, Germany, has been tuning and restoring Benzes for 44 years now and has put its stamp on everything from an A-Class to an AMG GT. The company has even dropped a 6.1-liter twin-turbo V8 into the Mercedes Viano van. Crazed engineers, indeed.

Brabus’s latest, the 800 SUV Coupe, rides about an inch lower than the GLE 63 S and uses a twin-turbo V8 belting out 800 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque, good enough for 3.4-second zero to 62 mph and an electronically limited 174-mph top speed. Brabus’s own turbos with a larger compressor, modified core assembly, and reinforced axial bearings replace the two production turbos. Brabus’s produce a maximum boost pressure of 1.6 bar. The German tuner also adds its own control unit, adapted to the GLE 63 S’s engine electronics and providing new mapping for injection, boost pressure control, and ignition. If you want your 800 SUV Coupe to sound like it belongs at the Nürburgring 24 hour, get the optional Brabus Boost Xtra. Two adapters for the bypass valves ensure that the characteristic blow-off noise of the turbos is audible when you lifts off the gas. It gives the twin-turbo “a very special acoustic touch,” the tuner says.

“It goes without saying that the Brabus tuning harmonizes perfectly with the integrated mild-hybrid starter generator of the GLE 63 S,” Brabus says.

The 800 has exposed carbon aero enhancements such as the front spoiler, larger air intakes and rear diffuser. There are also 24-inch Brabus wheels. You can choose performance tires from Continental, Pirelli, or Yokohama.

Brabus says you can cover the interior in “any desired color and many different designs” of leather or Alcantara. Cabin options include aluminum door lock pins, pedals, and racy paddle shifters on the steering wheel. You can also opt for stainless scuff plates with a backlit Brabus logo. It changes color in sync with the ambient interior lighting, as one would hope.

Brabus says the 800 SUV Coupe can be ordered as a complete car, or you can have your GLE 63 S converted to this specification all at once or in stages. Slick.
