The BMW 6-Series GT is dead in the U.S.
BMW is mercy-killing the 3-Series GT, 6-Series GT and 6-Series Gran Coupe in the U.S. for the 2020 model year, thankfully. All three of those cars were both pointless and useless. OK, maybe they weren’t useless, you could fit a little bit of extra stuff in them. But if you need more space, get a bigger car, don’t just raise the roof.
These are all sensible moves, but the 6-Series GC makes the most sense of the three considering an 8-Series Gran Coupe is coming later this year. From a styling standpoint, the 3-Series GT and 6-Series GT also deserved to go, though the 6 GT is more confusing because of the spy shots of a new generation caught testing earlier this year. On the other hand, BMW has the X6 to pick up the slack.
BMW doesn’t break out sales for each variant so we can’t say if the 3 GT or 6 GT sold well (I assume they didn’t), but we’ll have to see if the Germans across the way in Stuttgart follow suit.
