According to a media report, Nissan is planning to launch a sub-4 meter SUV in India. The vehicle is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of this year.
The media report suggests that the SUV will be based on a new platform, which is said to have been developed in Japan with inputs from Nissan India. It is expected to be built at Nissan’s manufacturing facility at Oragadam, near Chennai.
The sub-4 SUV model could borrow styling cues from Nissan’s larger SUVs. The car is expected to get new engine and transmission options, details of which are not known. It is expected to compete with the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon in the Indian market.
Nissan has reportedly conducted feasibility studies to launch other SUVs from its global portfolio in India. These include the Pathfinder, Patrol, Juke and Qashqai.
