Here Are the 20 Most Popular Cars on TikTok

TikTok was the most downloaded app in the world last year. According to new research from Uswitch.com, a price-comparison service, BMW is the most popular vehicle brand on the TikTok app and Ford’s Mustang is the most popular individual model. Using hashtags mentioning each vehicle make and model, Uswitch’s research looked at the number of views a vehicle’s videos got.

BMW has a gobsmacking 17.6 billion views on TikTok and (naturally) BMW and other automakers have been quick to embrace it, creating their own hashtag challenges to promote their vehicles.

“TikTok is no longer just a space for Gen Z to share viral dances and challenges,” said Joel Kempson, a car insurance expert at Uswitch.com. “The app is now home to many viral car videos, racking up billions of views from car lovers all over the world. Unsurprisingly, the majority of the most viewed motoring videos on TikTok involve vehicles that many of us could only dream of owning, as people turn to social media to escape lockdown life.”

Aspirational or not, with TikTok’s claimed 689 million users, if nothing else this is one way automakers can see if young folks are checking out their brands and adjust the marketing accordingly.

Here are the top 20 car models searched on the app.
