DK Engineering announces partnership with McMurtry

DK will be the exclusive UK agent for McMurtry Automotive and its incredible Spéirling

Though 2022’s Festival of Speed seems almost like ancient history, the sensational hillclimb run by the McMurtry Spéirling feels like it happened last weekend. That’s what a 39.08-second run in a car like this will do, the experience imprinted on the mind of everyone who witnessed it. If McMurtry was somewhat at the fringes of niche interest before that Goodwood weekend, its work was much more widely known after it.

In fact, such has been the interest in the Spéirling EV that DK Engineering has now agreed a commercial relationship with McMurtry Automotive. DK will be the exclusive agent in the UK for the burgeoning company, which is some vote of confidence given DK has been around for almost 50 years and McMurtry was created in 2016. The teams will now work together to bring the Spéirling to market in the UK.

DK’s James Cottingham said of the deal: “At our core, DK is an engineering company and it is amazing to see what McMurtry are achieving. I love what the team is doing, using electricity, but taking a different approach, rather than simply following the crowd. There is a huge respect for the work they have already carried out and the performance being achieved with the Spéirling, approaching that of Formula 1 around circuits, using electricity. “We feel it will be a great fit with our client base – for those who have an electric car scratch to itch, but who haven’t been intrigued or interested in anything offered previously. The team is taking the technology to the next level and we are proud to be a part of this exciting journey with the future projects, as the exclusive agent for the UK, and to support McMurtry as a revolutionary British business.”

Nice to kick off the new year with some good news, right? Though there’s no word yet on fixed UK availability, don’t forget how quickly McMurtry moves; a couple of years ago there can’t have been many outside of the company with knowledge of this fascinating little EV, and now it’s set to be sold through one of the country’s preeminent supercar specialists after an astonishing Goodwood record. The sky’s the limit for this time in 2024.
