2020 Audi Q3 Sportback Unveiled

Audi has recently pulled the wraps off the 2020 Q3 Sportback, the coupe version of the Q3 SUV. The coupe SUV comes with a distinguishing sloping roofline that adds to its sporty character, along with several other elements that differentiate the new Q3 Sportback from the standard model. The signature design feature, of course, is the octagonal Singleframe, which underlines its membership of the new Audi Q family. Audi says, “The new model combines the strong presence and versatile everyday convenience of an SUV with the sporty elegance and agile handling of a coupe.”

To give the 2020 Audi Q3 Sportback that additional aggressive look, the carmaker has gone with more prominent design lines along the wheel arches. Furthermore, the shoulder line has also been lowered so they now cut through the door handles as opposed to above them, as seen on the Q3 SUV, thus creating a more sculpted design. The grille gets a black honeycomb pattern with chrome surrounds, along with trapezoidal air inlets, which are connected by a horizontal blade in the bumper. The narrow headlights run inwards with their wedge shape and also come with the company’s Matrix LED technology as an option.

The rear also gets a bunch of changes, including a sloping tailgate with bold sculpted lines and a new bumper with a large rear diffuser and beefy cladding. Above the low window flanked by aero panels, a long roof edge spoiler emphasizes the width of the crossover. The rear lights, which take up and vary the design of the LED headlights, also contribute to this. In terms of dimensions, the Q3 Sportback is marginally longer than the regular Q3 by 16 mm, but slimmer by 6 mm and shorter by 29 mm. The coupe SUV also comes with bigger 18-inch aluminium wheels in a 5-twin-arm design with 235/55 tyres, with the optional 19- and 20-inch wheels from Audi Sport. In the S line, the insert in the sills is black. As an option, black exterior mirror housings can be added to the package.

The five-seater cabin of the Audi Q3 Sportback comes with the same 2,680 mm wheelbase as the Q3 SUV. Visually, like the regular Q3, here too we see more emphasis given to horizontals lines and shapes. Audi offers five different inlays for the instrument panel, along with seat upholstery made of fabric, artificial leather, leather and Alcantara, while there are numerous colour hues and designs available for selection. All three equipment lines-the basic version, the interior design selection and the interior S line-can be combined in any number of ways with the exterior lines. The central element is the optional MMI touch display, with its wide, high-gloss black trim which is octagonal and thus copies the design of the Singleframe grille. Even with the basic equipment, with the MMI radio, a digital instrument cluster with a 10.25-inch screen diagonal is on board. In the top-of-the-line system, MMI navigation plus, the displays appear in the Audi virtual cockpit, which offers many additional functions. There is also an MMI touch display in the middle of the instrument panel. It has a diagonal of 10.1 inches and issues acoustic feedback when a function is selected. Customers can also opt for the 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also on offer.

The Audi Q3 Sportback comes powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre TFSI engine tuned to make 226 bhp, whereas the 2.0-litre diesel engine comes in two states of tune – 35 TDI 40 TDI and Quattro, offering 147 bhp and 187 bhp, respectively. Audi also offers a 147 bhp 1.5-liter TFSI four-cylinder that is paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system for an efficiency boost. All engines pair with Audi’s seven-speed S Tronic dual-clutch transmission.

The 2020 Audi Q3 Sportback hits European dealerships in November, however, we do not expect the coupe SUV to arrive in India, if at all, before end of 2020.
