Volkswagen has released a teaser sketch of an all-electric sedan concept set to make its global debut on June 27, 2022. Called the ID. Aero, the show car will serve as a preview for the brand’s forthcoming electric sedan currently referred to internally as the Aero B but could be designated the ID.7 in production form.
According to the German carmaker, the production version of the ID. Aero will occupy the “high-volume upper-middle class segment” and be built on the Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform like other models in ID. line-up, including the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.6 and ID.Buzz.
The EV sedan concept measures five metres long, making it longer than the current B8 Passat, and is said to feature an aerodynamic front and roof, the latter of which is visible in the sketch. This sleek shape is accompanied by taillights not unlike those on ID. Space Vizzion concept from November 2019, with an intricate LED array that incorporates a full-width light bar.
The ID. Space Vizzion is an electric wagon concept that measures 4,958 mm long and is likely the alternative body style for the I.D Aero. Volkswagen’s earlier take on an EV sedan was the I.D. Vizzion from 2018, so the ID. Aero could be the updated version of that.
We’ll have to wait a few more days to find out what Volkswagen has cooked up, although the company did make it clear that the production version of the ID. Aero is expected to go on sale in China in the second half of 2023. The corresponding model for North America and Europe will also be presented in 2023, with series production taking place at Volkswagen’s Emden plant.
