Uswitch has considered additional factors such as fuel and car insurance costs, breakdown cover, maintenance costs and road tax. The annual price for each factor is then divided by the average mileage in the UK (7,400), to reveal the CPM for each of the most popular new cars available to buy.
The Kia Picanto was rated as having the lowest running cost per mile at just £0.19 per mile.
The smallest model in the Kia family, has become one of the UK’s most popular small cars, with 186,210 vehicles registered in the UK.
Of the 100 cars analysed, the Kia Picanto has the lowest running cost of around £1,373 per year.
One of the major contributing factors of the price is the low insurance cost of just £232.95 per year.
All five of the vehicles with the lowest running costs had an average cost per mile of £0.19.
The second most cost effective is the Citroen C1, with total running costs of £1,383.
The model has a high mileage per gallon and thus only costs £606.83 per year in fuel.
In third place is the Peugeot 108 with an average total of £1,405.32.
