Jeep Charging Up Trailheads as Part of Electrification Push, Wrangler 4xe Launch

With the 2021 Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid’s imminent launch and an all-electric Wrangler rumored to be on the way, Jeep is taking steps to make sure owners will be able to use electric power in the Wrangler’s natural environment: off-road trails. The automaker, in partnership with Electrify America, is installing Jeep 4xe-branded charging stations at certain off-road trailheads.

The Level 2 charging stations will appear first at trails in Moab, Utah, and both the Big Bear and Rubicon Trails in California. Jeep plans to add charging stations to other Jeep Badge of Honor trails over the next 12 months.

According to Jeep, owners will be able to download a custom Electrify America app and access and initiate charging at these locations for free. The app will also let drivers monitor the charging session.

The Wrangler 4xe’s 17-kilowatt-hour battery pack will fully recharge at a Level 2 charger in about two hours, according to Jeep. Owners looking to simply top off the battery pack should experience shorter charging times. With a fully charged battery pack, the Wrangler 4xe has a 49 mpg-equivalent EPA rating as well as 21 miles of all-electric range.
