The Pedestrian Defence active safety system has been launched by tech experts at Superpedestrian and Navmatic which could revolutionise city streets. They warn the new technology has “cracked the code” to one of the “biggest challenges” facing electric scooters.
The new technology will continue to record data in real-time to build up an image of how the user is operating the e-scooter.
Unsafe behaviour such as riding scooters on the path or riding the wrong way will be picked up.
Even aggressive swerving and repeated hard braking will be detected by the new tool.
The e-scooter will then automatically slow down or completely stop working to prevent riders from continuing their bad behaviour.
The developers say the tool is likely to prevent serious injuries caused by e-scooters on the roads.
Assaf Biderman, CEO of Superpedestrian said the tool was a “solution to aggressive and unlawful riding”.
He said: “Superpedestrian has cracked the code to one of this industry’s biggest challenges.
“Our e-scooter is unique because it has the computing power and sensors that Navmatic’s Super Fusion needs in order to operate in the field.

“Now, we can scale Pedestrian Defense across our entire fleet and offer riders and cities something no other company has: a real-time solution to aggressive and unlawful riding.”
The technology will also offer direct notifications or incentives to riders such as discounts for being safer on the roads.
Comprehensive data will also be made available to policymakers to illustrate trends and locations which are prone to unsafe behaviour.
Local authorities can then use this tool to introduce legislation to make the roads even safer.
