Around 29 million trips are expected to be made this summer as people look for a piece of freedom after lockdown restrictions ease. But new research from automated accident management company, Call Brian, has found a huge spike in ‘whiplash claims’ Google searches.
Whiplash is a somewhat common injury caused by a severe jerk to the head, often seen after car crashes.
Latest data from the Department of Transport has shown that traffic accidents have steadily declined since 2000.
Despite this, and efforts made to enhance road safety, there are still over 25,000 serious injuries a year emerging from traffic accidents.
When seeking compensation for injuries and damages incurred, motorists have routinely turned to insurance companies for help in this regard.
Russell Atkinson, chairman of Call Brian Group, spoke of the spike in searches and what it could mean for staycation drivers this year.
He said: “Data indicates British motorists should steer clear of danger this summer.
“Of course, we’re not suggesting UK holiday hotspots be avoided, but there’s a clear and obvious need for these locations, what with overseas travel restrictions, so Brits should take care when travelling.
“At Call Brian, we regularly hear from unfortunate motorists caught in road traffic accidents, but whilst sometimes inevitable, there’s a sense this year that we could be on for record numbers, particularly with COVID-19 restrictions having lifted.

“It’s an accident waiting to happen.
“Therefore, it’s time for back to basics, take your time, plan ahead and crucially, think about what you would do in an accident.”
The firm also discovered York, Liverpool and Manchester have occupied the top three ‘hotels in’ search spots over the past twelve months.
Bath, Birmingham and Cornwall were also popular search results for holidays this summer.
