Home Office data show 565,440 motorists successfully prosecuted in 2021, up 22 percent from 462,817 in 2020.

Speeding convictions were up 24 percent, as was drug-driving (51 percent), death by careless or dangerous driving (30 percent) and drink driving (13 percent).

Jack Cousens, from the AA, called it “a stark warning to drivers that the law will catch you”.
