The Croxford Defender has been created by AVA, as an homage to Stuart Croxford, a former soldier. Stuart Croxford, a former Captain of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, was on his final tour of Afghanistan in 2012 when his vehicle triggered and detonated an improvised explosive device. He sustained severe injuries to his feet.

He went through a year and half of rehabilitation to help him walk again but unfortunately was injured in a second incident which led to the loss of his right leg below the knee in 2014.

Determined not to let his injury hold him back, Stuart completed his first ever Ironman challenge, which he did in 2016.

The bespoke Croxford AVA Defender is designed to celebrate Stuart’s remarkable achievements, telling his story in every detail of the car.

Inspired by his prosthetic, AVA incorporated a bespoke carbon fibre bonnet containing the AVA shield and hand-crafted artwork.

The Defender is also fitted with high performance tyres and Recara Sports seats, combined with luxurious cashmere.

Norman Crowley, the founder of AVA, spoke of the process of getting to know Stuart and developing the vehicle.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, he said: “Things like the Croxford Defender, they’re what everyone would aspire to have.

“The problem with cars nowadays is that they’re like a bar of soap running down the road, it’s just plastic, everything is the sign.

“Electric cars, they generate an emotion.

“Like the Tesla, it’s very quick, but it’s very like driving a laptop. It’s an amazing feat of engineering, but it is like driving a laptop.

“So, what we wanted to do with all the cars was just get back to that emotion.”

The Croxford Defender is one of just eight fully electric bespoke Land Rover Defenders AVA will build this year.
