Hard to believe it has been 50 years since the first Street Rod Nationals held in Peoria, Illinois. There were 600 street rods that showed up in the field that first year. Well, here we are some celebrating the 50th event and right now there are almost 10,000 pre-event registered cars, trucks, et al!
Yes, we have come a long way from an event hosting pre-’48 cars and trucks to now open through the mid-‘70s model years with a yearly sliding scale that goes up one model year each calendar year. And what will that mean for this year’s event? Well, like we said there were 10,000 pre-registered and it looks very likely that there will be 12,000 and a chance for even more.
To say the event has come a long way is truly an understatement. Now when you show up there are plenty of things mechanical that are here to help you with any problems. For instance, there mechanical testing sights to help you with your rods electronics, safety inspections, suspension analysis, rod repair services, and, of course, a swap meet. There is plenty to see and do and its one four-day weekend you will not soon forget.
