2019 Toyota RAV4: Everything You Need to Know

The Toyota RAV4 has been one of the most recognizable and best-selling vehicles among compact SUVs for a long while now, but it had been falling behind the competition in a few key areas in recent years. Toyota sought to fix that with a full redesign of the RAV4 for the 2019 model year, and it returns with a completely different look, technology upgrades and a robust set of standard safety features.

It’s not only the gas version of the RAV4 that was updated; the hybrid version of vehicle got the same updates along with a big bump in fuel economy. Gas versions top out at 30 mpg combined, while the RAV4 Hybrid jumps all the way up to 40 mpg combined. On top of that, I think the hybrid version of the RAV4 also drives better, making it my choice between the two.

We also put the new RAV4 up against its chief competitors this spring in a seven-vehicle head-to-head comparison to determine compact SUV supremacy. I won’t spoil where it ended up — you’ll have to check out our Challenge results to see for yourself. And be sure to check out the rest of our comprehensive coverage of the new RAV4 below, along with the announcement of a new off-road version that will appear on the 2020 model.
